Evidence of Teaching Proficiency
I have had all of my course materials online since I joined at UVU (UVSC) in 2001. I prefer to control my own delivery platform, so all of my materials can be found on my own web site: chuckallison.com (click below). Materials include Syllabi, Schedules, Grade Sheets, Slides, Assignments, and other related documents. I also provide a way for students to submit work from the web site, as well as a class email list service. I have observed that upper division courses especially make good use of the email list as a discussion forum, and I use it as a way to communicate with students outside of class. Please peruse that web site to evaluate my course materials. (Note: quizzes, tests, and homework assignments do not appear there; if you would like copies, please let me know.)
I created a new course, CS 3450, Principles and Patterns of Software Design, during the evaluation period. This course is now required for Software Engineering and CS Track majors.
I am mentor for the following courses:
- CS 3240, Theory of Computation
- CS 3270, Python Software Development
- CS 3320, Numerical Software Engineering
- CS 3370, C++ Software Development
- CS 4450, Analysis of Programming Languages
There are also a peer evaluation and comments from my Department Chair below.
I attended The Teaching Professor Conference in June 2009.
I have also included selected emails from the evaluation period from my students who have since graduated.
I hope that you will agree that receiving the UVU Trustee's Award of Excellence in 2010 is evidence of excellence in teaching as well as in scholarly work and service. Please also note that peer and supervisor assessments of my teaching occur in some of the letters in the Letters of Recommendation section on this portfolio (in particular, the letters from Neil Harrison, and Thomas Henry), and the letters from Todd Peterson and Kirk Love below.
Finally, although they occurred before the current evaluation period, I received the Faculty Excellence and Alumni Outstanding Educator of the Year awards in 2004.

This and the next five emails came from a Facebook request for my students to comment for this promotion.
This was unsolicited and gave me the idea to post the Facebook request.
